General Motors said it plans to make an announcement at 2:00pm on Tuesday, Feb. 14, about five of its Michigan manufacturing facilities.

But the Detroit media is reporting on GM’s plans ahead of the official announcement.

The Detroit Free Press said that GM would invest more than US$500 million in five Michigan assembly and component plants, citing ‘people familiar with the plans’.

The newspaper said that the investment would result in nearly 300 new jobs at GM’s truck assembly plant in Pontiac. The report added that GM would confirm plans to upgrade the Pontiac assembly plant to build GM’s redesigned, full-size pickups that go on sale late this year.

In addition to the Pontiac truck plant, GM is expected to announce investment at its Lansing Grand River assembly plant, where it builds the Cadillac CTS and STS sedans and the SRX sport-utility vehicle. Also targeted for investment are a GM engine plant in Romulus, a transmission plant in Ypsilanti and a metal stamping plant in Pontiac, two people familiar with the plans told the DFP.
