Vehicle exports from Japan rose 13.2%, to 465,450 vehicles, according to data from the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Assocation (JAMA) cited by Reuters.

Export value was up 10% to US$10.43m.


Of the total, 412,661 were cars (+18.3%), 45,690 were trucks (-18.8%) and 7,099 were buses (+12.6%).


Exports to Japan’s largest market, the US, grew 18.4% to 166,896 units while exports to Europe grew by a similar level to 109,836 units.


Exports to the Middle East were also up strongly (+23.1%) to 49,160 units. Finally exports to Asia were down 15.9% to 31,915 units.


The biggest exporter, Toyota, saw exports rise 16.4% to 197,125, while Mazda increased its overseas shipments 53.6% to 58,598 units.


Suzuki also saw its exports rise over 50% to 26,537 units.


Nissan, Honda, Mitsubishi and Daihatsu all recorded export declines.
