Compared with the same month last year, sales of BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce branded vehicles rose 13.5% to 144,316 units.


In the first three months of 2006, deliveries rose 13.9% to a record 332,923 vehicles. In the USA, sales for the period rose 10.8%to 72,588 units. In Germany, sales were up 10.5% to 72,557. UK sales inched up 1% to 40,038.


Strongest growth was in China, where sales rose 64.1% to 9,926 automobiles.


BMW said China stood out for both the high rate of growth and the high quality of the product mix. In the first quarter 2006, China recorded 1,680 BMW 7 series vehicles sold, making it the second-largest market for this top model after the USA (4,864).


BMW 3 series sales in the first quarter grew 54.2% to 122,691 vehicles, accounting for 43% of the brand’s volume.


Because of interrupted production in the UK plant, Mini sales were off 6% to 49,519.


Rolls-Royce Phantom sales were off 15.1% to 107 cars in the first quarter.
