Local truck specialist Tata Motors and Brazil’s biggest bus manufacturer Marcopolo have formed a joint venture to produce buses in India.

The vehicles will both be sold locally and exported to other countries in the region.


Marcopolo said initial investment in the joint venture is $US13.3m with Tata holding 51% and Marcopolo 49%.


Marcopolo will provide its bus body production know-how and Tata will supply chassis.


Both urban and highway buses will be built.
