Indonesian press reports say that Toyota will start assembling the Fortuner SUV in Indonesia for export to the Middle East.

The vehicle will be produced by PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing from October 2006 at a rate of 15,000 units a year. Toyota will invest around US$5m in the project. To date the Fortuner has only been produced in Thailand.
Toyota already produces the Kijang Innova in Indonesia. This uses the Innovative Multipurpose Vehicle (IMV platform) that also forms the basis of the Fortuner.
The Fortuner is already sold in Indonesia, imported from Thailand.
