The plant will help meet demand from its global tyre plants, which are increasing production. Bridgestone is investing heavily to increase capacity globally to help it meet its target of overtaking Michelin as the world’s largest tyre manufacturer.

The new plant is due to commence production of carbon black in June 2008. Annual capacity will be 35,000 tonnes.

Bridgestone has two other carbon black plants – one in Japan and one in Thailand. Carbon black is used to help reinforce tyres.
