The Land Cruiser Prado VX joins the production model line at Sichuan FAW Toyota Motor, which was established with China FAW Group in 2005. Toyota earlier exported the model to China from Japan, according to Kyodo News.
SFTM’s Chengdu plant has also made the Land Cruiser Prado GX – both versions are for the Chinese market, Toyota said.
Like the GX, Toyota sells the VX in China through about 220 FAW Toyota Motor Sales dealer, priced at RMB558,000 ($US69,667).
The move raises SFTM’s annual capacity to 23,000 units from 20,000 units, with Toyota’s production capacity in China now 343,000 units per year.
