Rick Wagoner has insisted that he will keep his position as CEO of General Motors even if talks underway at the moment result in a three-way alliance between the US motor giant and Renault and Nissan.

Quoted by Reuters Wagoner said: “I have no intention of leaving my position at GM. We are in the middle of a huge turnaround that’s getting a lot of momentum, and we really need to stay focused on that.”
Wagoner was in the UK attending the launch of the Opel/Vauxhall Corsa sub-compact car, which hits European showrooms in October.
Last week, Nissan/Renault CEO Carlos Ghosn, in an interview with CNBC, ruled out the idea that he would also become head of GM through any deal struck.
“I’m not going to run any other third company. That’s not what is at stake here,” Ghosn said. “What is at stake here is building an alliance with a third company and supporting this company.”
He added: “I’m saying categorically it’s out of the question that I’ll add on top of my two present responsibilities, which is being CEO of Renault and Nissan, another one.”
