New car registrations in Germany fell slightly in August, according to dpa-AFX. Registrations were down around one percent to 245,000 compared to August 2006.

Sales in the first eight months of the year are up one percent to 2.25m cars.
The VDA is expecting sales to increase in the coming months as consumer bring new car purchases forward ahead of the introduction of a new higher rate of value-added tax in January 2007.
Car exports from Germany were up five percent in August to 238,5000 units. Order intakes from overseas are up 29% thanks to strong demand from China and Russia in particular.
Demand for German-built cars is also increasing from America, South Africa and the new EU member states.
German car production was up six percent in August to 325,900 units, and cumulative production in the first eight months of the year now stands two percent up on last year.
