Existing investors Mitsui Chemicals and Gates Frontier also took part, along with new backer Obayashi Corporation.

Founded in 2016 and backed by OpenAI founder Sam Altman, the autonomous urban mobility firm said the latest round has raised its total funding to more than $250m.

Glydways said the capital will be allocated across three priorities.

These include geographic expansion through pilot operations planned for 2026 in the UAE, the New York City area and Atlanta.

Larger-scale rollouts are expected to follow from 2027.

The company also intends to advance its technology. This includes producing next-generation Glydcars in partnership with Suzuki.

In addition, Glydways plans to expand its workforce and infrastructure footprint across North America, APAC, the Middle East and Europe. It currently operates eight offices worldwide.

The company describes its offering as a distinct category of urban transport, pairing autonomous vehicles with dedicated small guideways to deliver on-demand, high-capacity networks capable of providing direct, private journeys.

Glydways founder and co-CEO Mark Seeger said: “Glydways will be in public operations this year, showing the public a new way of moving around cities that is efficient and affordable.

“Having dedicated investors alongside us supporting every facet of our go-to-market motion is essential as Glydways becomes a reality for riders globally.”

Separately, Bloomberg reported that the company is in discussions to secure a further $250m on top of the Series C.

To manage its expanding portfolio of projects worldwide, the company intends to increase its headcount from 270 within the next two years.

The fundraising follows recent agreements, including memorandums of understanding with the Abu Dhabi Investment Office and the Dubai Roads & Transport Authority.

The company has also broken ground on its first publicly accessible system in South Metro Atlanta.

Suzuki Motor Corporation representative director and president Toshihiro Suzuki said: “Glydways’ mission—to provide a public transportation solution that stays close to people’s daily lives—resonates strongly with Suzuki’s corporate slogan.

“Through this additional investment, we will further strengthen this synergy and continue to move forward together toward realizing the mobility of the future.”
