Canadian automotive supplier Magna International is selling its lighting and rooftop systems businesses through three separate transactions, as it reshapes its Power & Vision segment.

The two units generated combined global revenue of about $1.1bn in 2025, with lighting contributing roughly $1bn and rooftop systems around $100m.

The disposals are being split by region.

Under the planned deals, one investment firm will acquire Magna’s lighting operations in North America, South America and China, covering front and rear lighting programmes.

A second investment firm will buy the company’s European lighting operations, while also taking ownership of the rooftop systems business in a separate transaction.

All three deals are subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions. Magna expects the transactions to close in the second half of 2026.

The company said the sales are not expected to affect its previously issued 2026 adjusted earnings per diluted share guidance.

Magna CEO Swamy Kotagiri said: “Today’s announcement underscores our commitment to actively managing our portfolio in line with our guiding principles.

“Magna will continue to focus on businesses that advance our long-term growth, margin, and return objectives. We are committed to ensuring a smooth transition for employees, customers, and all other stakeholders.”

Separately, Magna recently expanded its hybrid technology portfolio with the launch of DHD REX, a dedicated hybrid drive for range-extended electric vehicles. 

Built on a modular single-motor architecture, the system is designed to give automakers greater flexibility across different markets and regulatory environments.

Magna said the platform is ready to integrate and engineered to deliver responsive torque, quiet operation and continuous range capability.

In November, Chinese automaker GAC began producing its AION V electric SUV at Magna’s manufacturing plant in Austria.

The start of production was part of a vehicle assembly programme intended to support GAC’s broader European EV manufacturing ambitions.
