An official statement from Renault said only: “Through the work of the three study teams, our companies continue to explore the potential opportunities of an industrial alliance. The teams are conducting a thorough and objective analysis of potential synergies between all three companies with a focus on how an alliance could generate significant shareholder value for each company.

“Following today’s meeting, it has been confirmed that the teams will continue the studies through to the planned mid-October completion date.”

Earlier on Wednesday, Reuters, citing a Wall Street Journal (WSJ) report, said that General Motors was ready to tell Nissan and Renault that its price for a three-way alliance is a multi billion dollar payment from Nissan and Renault.

The newspaper reportedly said General Motors believes the payment would compensate for the greater value the Detroit car maker thinks it would bring to any partnership.

The planned demand for an “equalising contribution” is the latest sign that talks among the three auto giants are in trouble, The Journal reported, according to the news agency.
