A Michelin spokeswoman declined to comment to Reuters on financial details. She said the new centre is in addition to existing facilities.


Work will start in 2007 on an initial 40,000 square metre centre which can be extended to 70,000 square metres. Some hundred people will be employed in the end, the news agency said. The site will stock tyres made outside France before being delivered to clients in Europe.


Reuters noted that the Valenciennes area, near major roads connecting with Belgium and Germany, is home to various car factories owned by Toyota, Daimler-Chrysler and PSA Peugeot Citroen.
