VDA president Bernd Gottschalk said: “We can be hopeful that this is the beginning of an improved consumer climate.” 297,000 new cars were registered.
Year-to-date sales reached 2.54m units, up 1% on a year ago.
Diesel vehicle sales have shown a stronger than average growth, with sales up 9% in September. The diesel share of the German market was 44% in September, up two percentage points on August.
