Kia Motors Corporation, which earlier this week posted a surprise 43.9bn won ($US46m) Q3 net loss instead of the 29.5bn won net profit analysts were expecting, said on Wednesday that its overseas retail sales of passenger cars and light trucks in October 2006 rose 4.8% year on year to 66,542 units.

By region, Europe sales rose 12.3% to 28,152 units. North America sales were up 1.4% to 23,210 units and the general market was up 2.3% to 15,180 units.
Cumulatively for the first 10 months of 2006, Kia’s overseas sales rose 2.4% to 699,238 units, with Europe showing the largest gain at 4.9%.
North American sales have increased 2.8% while general market sales have decreased by 2.3%.
So far in 2006, Kia’s best selling model in export markets has been the C-segment Cerato (Spectra in some markets) with 109,484 units sold.
