Japanese automaker Honda Motor has discontinued production of its battery-powered Acura ZDX premium crossover vehicle in the US, reflecting a slowdown in local demand “and other market changes.”

The ZDX was jointly developed with General Motors and was produced at the US automaker’s Spring Hill plant in Tennessee.

Honda confirmed it had ceased production of the ZDX, which was sold mainly in the US and Canada, ahead of the planned introduction of the updated 2026 model this month. A company spokesperson said in a statement: “To better align our product portfolio with the needs of our customers and market conditions, as well as our long-term strategic goals, we can confirm the Acura ZDX has ended production.”

Sales of the model in the US amounted to 11,500 units in the first eight months of 2025.

Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) currently account for less than 10% of total vehicle sales in the US, with growth slowing sharply in the last year. Demand is expected to slow further after the discontinuation of federal BEV incentives, which were introduced by the previous Biden administration, at the end of September. Several automakers have already delayed or cancelled BEV launches in the US following new policies introduced by the Trump-led US government.

The discontinuation of the Acura ZDX will leave the Mexican-made Honda Prologue as the only BEV model produced in collaboration with GM. A previous plan to jointly develop and produce a mass-market BEV model for the North American market was abandoned in 2023.

Honda plans to produce a new BEV model, the Acura ZSX, at its EV hub in Ohio in the second half of 2026. The company stated: “The ZDX has played a valuable role for the Acura brand and will provide a foundation we will build on next year with the arrival of the all-electric Acura RSX, which will be produced at the EV Hub in Ohio in the second half of 2026, as well as with hybrid-electric Acura models now in development.”
