Malaysia’s first national car company, Proton, has returned to the neighbouring Singapore market after an eleven-year absence, with the launch of its e.MAS 7 battery electric vehicle (BEV).
Vincar Group has been appointed as Proton’s official distributor for the island-nation, handling sales and aftersales operations. Other models will be added to the line-up in the coming months, including a new Proton BEV scheduled to go into production in Malaysia by the end of the year.

The e.MAS 7, based on the Geely Galaxy E5, went into production in Malaysia last December, with almost 6,000 units sold there in the first eight months of 2025. Production of the e.MAS 7 was recently transferred to Proton’s new dedicated BEV plant in Tanjong Malim, Malaysia.
The new facility has an initial production capacity of 20,000 BEVs per year, with plans to scale this up to 45,000 units per year later on. A second Geely-based BEV model, the e.MAS 5, is scheduled to go into production in the coming months, with other models set to be added later on, including premium models under Geely’s Zeekr BEV brand.
Launch prices in Singapore for the Proton e.MAS 7 start at SGD175,988 (US$137,500) for the Prime variant, rising to SGD179,988 for the Premium variant, including the costly certificate on entitlement (COE).
Edmund Lim Meng Thong, CEO of Proton International Corporation, said in a statement: “The Proton e.MAS 7 is the first step in Singapore for both the partnership between Proton and Vincar. We will add more models to the lineup in the future, focusing our attention on the New Energy Vehicles (NEV) market, which is well established in Singapore.”
