The auto regulator has highlighted that the recalled vehicles are estimated to have a 100% defect rate in the instrument panel cluster (IPC) software, which was introduced in 2024 and subsequently removed from production in 2025.
The safety concern arises from a blank IPC screen upon startup, which could make safety-related telltales and gauges unreadable under specific conditions.
The underlying cause of the issue has been traced to a memory protection fault during the IPC’s sleep entry sequence.
Ford’s internal Critical Concern Review Group (CCRG) initiated an investigation into the issue in May 2025 after reports surfaced regarding blank screens on the instrument clusters of 2025 F-150 models.

By GlobalDataThe CCRG’s subsequent analysis, which included examining data from connected vehicles, found that a significant proportion of vehicles were at risk of this defect.
The company has logged 95 warranty claims that could be related to this issue, but as of the latest information, without aware of any accidents or injuries reported in connection with the malfunction.
Vehicle owners affected by the recall will receive a mail notification with instructions to have their IPC Module software updated at a Ford or Lincoln dealership, free of charge.
The update will involve disabling the memory protection feature to eliminate the risk of the screen going blank.
Ford plans to begin the mailing of owner notification letters from 2 to 5 September.
This recall announcement follows another recent recall by Ford for 103,174 F-150 pickup trucks due to faulty rear axle hub bolts.
