The core functions of the solution have already been validated, and the companies says the system is on track for mass production and integration into vehicles later this year.

WePilot AiDrive merges the sensing and decision-making processes into a single stage architecture, allowing vehicles to process and react simultaneously.

This approach mirrors the capabilities of an experienced driver, resulting in quicker reactions, efficient routes, and fault tolerance.

According to WeRide, the system can handle intricate driving scenarios such as navigating heavy traffic, bypassing unexpected roadworks, executing unprotected turns at intersections, following vehicles smoothly, and dealing with complex interactions in densely populated urban areas.

WePilot AiDrive’s one-stage architecture runs on high-performance platforms and is capable of scaling down to mid- and low-power systems through model distillation.

Its middleware detaches algorithms from hardware and foundational software, facilitating smooth transitions across different platforms.

Additionally, the modular Level 2 functions streamline deployment, hasten integration, and speed up the mass production process.

Secondly, the system’s adaptability is enhanced by its compatibility with various sensor configurations, supporting pure vision and multi-sensor fusion setups.

The system utilises driving data for automatic generation of training labels, refining the system’s performance in a cost-effective way, improving its ability to manage rare and complex driving scenarios.

In a recent development, Grab, Southeast Asia’s superapp, has made a strategic equity investment in WeRide, aiming to accelerate the deployment of Level 4 autonomous robotaxis and shuttles throughout the region.

WeRide has also been granted permission to conduct late-night testing of its robotaxi service within the Beijing High-Level Autonomous Driving Demonstration Zone.
