Brazil-based AutoData reported that Volkswagen will produce 1,300 heavy vehicles at its Puebla plant in 2006, and that this will rise 23% in 2007. This year production is already up 22%.
Volkswagen’s truck and bus operation is based in Brazil and Mexico is its first step in its globalisation plan. The number of dealers should increase from eight to 16 next year.
Volkswagen is currently trying to oversee the merger of MAN and Scania, two global truck manufacturers in which it is the largest shareholder.
Eventually Volkswagen would like to integrate its Brazilian operation into the merged company, and become a major player in the global truck market.
