Car transmission maker Jatco Ltd will introduce a new type of continuously variable transmission (CVT) gearbox for 2000 cc engine front wheel drive (FWD) vehicles, according to a report in the Japanese News Digest.

The report says that the size of the new transmission system has been reduced by 10% compared to previous versions. The company will start supplies of the new CVT to its parent company, Nissan, in September 2004. Jatco expects that launching of the new transmission system will help boost the orders of the company and targets sales of one million units in 2007.

The report adds that the company also plans to start manufacturing the new CVT at its Mexico plant as of 2005.

The Japanese News Digest says that the company is currently developing a six-gear front wheel drive (FWD) automatic transmission system, which the company will supply to Renault from 2006.
