The Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMIF) – which covers the UK except Scotland – and Motor Industry Legal Services (MILS), a UK industry law firm, have formed an alliance to deliver full legal support to RMIF members from 1 January.

The agreement follows the reinstatement of a free legal service by RMIF president Keith Sayfritz at the organisation’s annual dinner in October, and the ongoing review and upgrading of member services.
The alliance will mean that all RMIF members will benefit from unlimited use of a free legal advice line, including support with correspondence, alerts and fact sheets. They will also have access to full membership of MILS at preferential rates.
MILS clients who are members of the RMIF will also benefit from the relationship with an additional 10% discount on their annual fee.
Sayfritz said: “We have listened carefully to our members and worked closely with MILS to develop a new approach to legal support that exactly meets their needs. MILS are undoubtedly the motor industry legal experts, and the scheme provides our members, for the first time, with a comprehensive free service plus complete control of costs should they need to take full legal action.”
Heading the RMIF team will be Christopher Baylis, a barrister with 20 years’ experience in the industry, and considered to be the foremost UK expert in motor retail legislation and practice. He was a member of the RMIF legal department up to 1992 and is therefore particularly well suited to the role.
Access to the new service will be via the existing RMIF member helpline at its office in Rugby.
