“I have at no point had negotiations with Mr. Bernhard,” Pischetsrieder told Reuters, following a media report that Bernhard was about to join VW.
The news agency noted that Bernhard has been expected to leave DaimlerChrysler ever since his promotion to head the Mercedes car group was blocked, after sources close to the company reportedly said he was unlikely to stay.
The report added that speculation had mounted that he would join Volkswagen after recent media reports had linked him to the job of head of the Volkswagen brand car group, which includes brands such as Bentley, Skoda and Bugatti.
