Iran Khodro is planning to export 100,000 cars in its financial year starting March 2007.

According to Merhnews.com, exports by the company should be worth around US$1bn. Exports will include parts and technical and engineering services as well as completely built-up and knocked-down passenger cars.

No Iranian company has ever exported this much before, according to the report.

However, the figure is ambitious. In the 2005-2006 financial year Iran Khodro exported only 6,000 cars. Exports in the first half of the 2006-2007 financial year were around 9,000 units, In October this year the company complained that problems with quality and lack of government support were undermining its ambitious plans for a massive increase in exports over the next four years.

Iran Khodro’s current and potential target markets vary from ex-Soviet countries to Sudan, Algeria, Jordan, Lebanon, and Egypt.
