Uber Technologies and May Mobility, an autonomous vehicle (AV) technology company, have signed a multi-year partnership to introduce AVs in US cities.

The collaboration aims to deploy thousands of AVs on the Uber platform, with an initial launch set for Arlington, Texas, by the end of 2025.

The partnership combines Uber’s ride-hailing expertise with May Mobility’s AV technology to expand the use of AVs in diverse markets.

Under the agreement, Uber will offer customers the option to choose a May Mobility AV for certain trips.

May Mobility will provide a fleet of hybrid-electric Toyota Sienna Autono-MaaS vehicles equipped with its Multi-Policy Decision Making (MPDM) technology.

The initial deployment will include onboard safety operators, with plans to transition to driverless operations.

Following the Arlington launch, Uber and May Mobility aim to expand into additional US markets in 2026.

Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said: “We are thrilled to be partnering with May Mobility to continue to scale the availability of autonomous vehicles across the US. At Uber, we’re building the future of transportation, working with the world’s leading autonomous vehicle developers like May Mobility to help commercialise and deploy this technology quickly at scale around the world.”

May Mobility’s MPDM platform uses real-time, human-like reasoning to handle unexpected situations with AI-powered speed and precision.

This enables navigation of real-world scenarios without relying on predefined cases.

MPDM adapts to new environments, including “edge cases”, and has been proven in deployments across the US and Japan, including driverless operations in three cities, providing a reliable and safe ride experience.

May Mobility CEO and co-founder Edwin Olson added: “Launching on the Uber platform is a big signal to the market that May Mobility is ready to quickly expand to major markets as the pre-eminent autonomy-as-a-service provider. Uber and May Mobility will make it possible for more people across the US to enjoy the transformative benefits of autonomous vehicles.”
