Honda has reportedly asked Nissan to consider acquiring Renault’s 35.7% stake in the company (Nissan).

Honda and Nissan are engaging in merger talks and the move would be part of avoiding a scenario in which a third party owned a significant stake in Nissan that would complicate merger negotiations.

The Kyodo news agency reported the development, citing unnamed sources.

Renault remains Nissan’s largest single shareholder with a 35.7% stake as of the end of September 2024, down from 43.4% a year earlier.

Late last year, there were rumours that Taiwan’s Hon Hai (Foxconn) was interested in investing in Nissan.
