Volkswagen Group China and XPeng have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish one of China’s “largest super-fast” charging networks.

This collaboration will leverage the technological expertise of both companies to provide an extensive charging infrastructure for electric vehicles (EVs) across China.

The partnership aims to deploy over 20,000 charging piles in 420 cities, accessible to customers of both Volkswagen Group China and XPeng.

XPeng said the network will integrate high-power liquid-cooled charging technology, enhancing the charging experience for users across the country.

In 2023, Volkswagen acquired a nearly 5% stake in XPeng, a smart electric vehicle (EV) maker, for $700m.

The companies plan to jointly develop two EVs to be marketed as Volkswagen models in China by 2026.
