Hunan wants to deepen its relationship with Mitsubishi Motors in such fields as production technology and capital, Li reportedly said.
Kyodo noted that Hunan last month started production and sales of the latest models of Mitsubishi Motors’ Pajero [Shogun; Montero] sport utility vehicle. Li was confident about expanding sales of the cars, saying the Pajero is well known among Chinese consumers.
Li reportedly said the quality of Mitsubishi cars made by Hunan has reached the same level as imported ones and it is eager to produce more models in the future as several Mitsubishi cars are competitive in the Chinese market.
But Li declined to name the particular Mitsubishi models that Hunan is planning to manufacture, Kyodo said.
Commenting on the possibility that Mitsubishi may raise its stake in Hunan from the current 16%, Li told Kyodo News the automaker would welcome such a move to strengthen their capital ties.
