The auto parts maker estimates that there will be a huge price difference between locally manufactured and imported CRDi systems and is investing INR 5.5 billion in manufacturing facilities in Bangalore and Nashik.

Delphi currently has a joint venture with the TVS Group making CRDi components and that company – Delphi TVS – will makee the complete systems.

CRDi is not very popular in India at the moment but the market is expected to grow substantially with the introduction of Euro III emission regulations in 11 major Indian cities from April 2005.

Traditional diesel vehicle manufacturers such as Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra are developing their own CRDi diesel engines while Maruti is setting up a plant to manufacture 1.3-litre Fiat motors.
