According to Reuters, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration cited the likelihood of head injuries, in certain types of accidents, for the recall, which affects Freelanders from the 2002-2004 model years.
Land Rover is part of the Premier Automotive Group, Ford’s stable of luxury European brands, the report noted.
No injuries or deaths have been linked to the recall of the British-built vehicles, Larry Rosinski, a spokesman at Premier Automotive’s US headquarters in Irvine, California, told Reuters.
