Sales grew 100.4% to 311,961 but locally made vehicles lost market share to imported models. In 2003, 41.7% of the vehicles sold in Argentina were locally built but that fell to 34.8% last year.


Volkswagen topped the sales tables in 2004 with 69,175 vehicles for 22.2% of market share. Ford was second with 51,888 units sold (16.6), followed by Chevrolet (46,599 units; 14.9%).


Argentine automakers exported 146,236 vehicles in 2004, up 35.3% compared with the 108,057 units shipped in 2003.
