Award recipients must meet stringent standards for quality, logistics, environmental awareness, sourcing, R & D, cost reduction, productivity, and aftermarket activities to be considered a “best supplier.”

The selection was made from Volvo’s 475 suppliers. From that number, 30 candidates emerged, and finally, four companies were recognized as the companies that performed best last year. The jury was made up of Bertil Thoren, head of purchasing for Volvo, Curt Germundsson, head of car manufacturing, and Hans Gustavsson, head of product and process engineering.

“The aim of the award is to acknowledge supplier work that goes beyond the norm and to encourage further improvements,” said Thoren.

The award was presented by Volvo Cars Corporation president Tuve Johannesson during a ceremony at the company’s headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden. Goran Stolt, branch manager of Yazaki Europe Limited, and Tom Varley, director of sales and cost estimating for Yazaki North America, Inc.’s Ford Business Unit received the award on behalf of YEL.
