Fiat, the Italian automotive and industrial group, on Tuesday confirmed that it would abandon its sports utility alliance with Mitsubishi Motors of Japan following its alliance with General Motors. The company was widely expected to end the Mitsubishi tie-up after the Japanese carmaker signed a separate alliance with DaimlerChrysler, the German-US motor manufacturer.
