Fleet car sales in Germany increased 8% in 2004, to 603,400 units, reports Automobilwoche. This compares with a 1.9% fall in the private market, according to analysis in a new study by Dataforce.

Volkswagen leads the fleet market and increased its sales by almost 12% and its share of the fleet market to almost 25%. The second largest fleet supplier is BMW with a market share of 14%. It increased its sales by 26% compared to 2003.
The big loser in the German fleet market in 2004 was Mercedes-Benz. Its sales dropped 2.5% and it was overtaken by Audi to fill the third ranking position. Each has around 12% of the market.
The OEM with the highest grow in volume was Volvo, with sales up 38% thanks to strong sales of the V50. Volvo has just over 2% of the market, the same as Skoda, which also saw strong growth (+32%) in 2004.
