Meeting Euro 4 emission standards that take effect across the European Union this autumn would be difficult for Chery’s current model range so the ambitious Chinese automaker has decided to start European sales with all-new models designed by Italian design houses Pininfarina and Bertone.

Between 2006 and 2008, Chery will launch 14 new models and variants specifically made for export, Automotive News Europe reported.
It plans to display some of the new models at the IAA in Frankfurt in September.
The automaker also is developing a completely new portfolio of engines that can meet future European emission standards. Chery has hired engine specialist AVL of Graz, Austria, to help design and develop petrol and diesel engines and hybrid powertrains.
Chery is constructing a completely automated production facility in China for these new engines.
