The recall concerns certain E-, S-, CL-, CLK- and A-class vehicles, the company told the Associated Press.

It follows customer complaints about Mercedes vehicles showing low levels of brake fluid, and affects vehicles equipped with a particular Bosch hydraulic system and electronic stability programme.

There is no recall of Mercedes vehicles outside of Japan, the company told AP, which noted that the action comes after Mercedes-Benz in May announced it was going to have to recall some 680,000 E- and SL-class vehicles worldwide to examine potential problems with a brake control system.
