Kyodo News said Nissan also unveiled a new concept designed in the studio to promote the combination of product development and design work – the car is a small, sporty hatchback designed for young people.

NDA-Farmington Hills will be responsible for designing pickup trucks and other models in strong demand in the North America market, according to the report – among its tools is an 8-foot by 20-foot screen that allows designers in different studios to simultaneously analyse and manipulate large-scale computer-generated designs.

Shiro Nakamura, Nissan’s senior vice president in charge of design, told Kyodo News the new design studio will arouse ”potential demand” by designing vehicles ”unbound by conventional concepts about the North American market.”
