BYD luxury sub-brand Yangwang has launched its first electric, the U9, priced at CNY1.68m (US$233,000) with first deliveries in China expected this summer.

The battery electric vehicle (BEV) with four motors has power output of 960kW and claimed top speed of 310km/h.

Last year Yangwang launched the U8 SUV priced at CNY1m ($160,000).

The U8 and U9 are the first models built on Yangwang architecture which uses six core BYD systems including e4 platform and intelligent body control.
