Google-Alphabet autonomous driving unit Waymo has said it has applied to the California Public Utilities Commission to expand its self-driving service in Los Angeles.

Currently it is testing its services in the city, with rides requiring an invitation.

Posting on X, formerly Twitter, the firm said: “We’ll continue our work with local policymakers, first responders and community organizations there [Los Angeles).”

It did not give details of a timeline for its service.

If granted a license, it would be able to fully operate its driverless fleet in the city.

It is already operating in San Francisco.
