Skoda Auto has started production of the second generation Kodiaq at its plant in Kvasiny, Czech Republic.

The redesigned model is made on the original production line after the automaker spent EUR49m to modernise the line and welding shop.

A plug-in hybrid drivetrain will be offered with the second generation.

The Superb was previously made in the same Kvasiny plant but has been relocated to Bratislava.

This freeed up capacity for an additional 150,000 units annually of the Karoq and Kodiaq SUVs. The plant can assemble up to 410 Kodiaqs a day.

Plants in the Czech Republic, Ukraine, China, and – until early 2022 – Russia, have buult 870,000 units of the first generation Kodiaq since launch in 2016.
