Fiat India has modified its locally-made Palio for South Africa. The car has been shipped back to Fiat headquarters in Italy for testing and will subsequently be launched in Africa.

Since the company’s Italian R&D wing is overloaded, the management has decided to move some projects to its Indian arm, Fiat India commercial director Ravi Bharadwaj said.


Fiat India is currently facing tough times thanks to falling sales of the Palio and Fiat Italy’s poor health needs as much help as possible. Shifting some R&D activities to India will help bolster its position.
