The two most popular trim levels in the current sedan and hatchback range have been renamed ‘Classic’ models and the convertible, not yet redesigned, also continues.

Holden’s marketing manager passenger cars, Alan Blazevic, said the Astra Classics would enable the carmaker to continue to cover various price points and suit the broadest possible range of buyers.

“We believe there will be a place for both body styles in the Australian market when [the new model] is released here.”

The move is not unusual. In the US, Holden’s parent company continues to sell the ‘old’ Chevrolet Malibu, also renamed ‘Classic’, to fleets while, in Europe, Ford has previously carried over some entry-level Fiesta and Escort models, badging them ‘Encore’.
