The 65hp and 105hp engines will be built at Renault’s motor plant in Valladolid, north of Madrid.

The 105hp motor, part of the so-called KNK diesel family, meets Euro 5 emissions requirements and will allow the car to reach speeds of 186km/h, Renault said.

Renault will manufacture the new “TL4” gearbox at its Seville components plant, which exports worldwide.

The box will power the faster Moduses and new cars on Renault and Nissan’s common B and C platforms – Clio, Modus, Micra, Megane and Laguna models.

Renault will build the new box to boost the “driving experience” of the vehicles. It said it will assemble 342,000 TL4s in Seville this year.

At Valladolid, Renault makes one million motors per year for global distribution. It makes two petrol 1.4 and 1.6-litre engines and seven diesel motors with power outputs ranging from 55hp to 106hp.

Last October, Renault said it would invest €300 million to step up diesel engine production at Valladolid to diversify and boost sales of its struggling Modus line.
