Mercedes is putting pressure on suppliers to improve quality, following the biggest recall in the company’s history and the brand’s faltering image, reports Automobilwoche.
In a letter to major powertrain suppliers Mercedes threatens that suppliers will be subjected to 100% testing and test labelling, if Mercedes finds faults during random sampling.

The tone of recent supplier meetings has become tougher, reports Automobilwoche. Several suppliers were reportedly singled out by purchasing boss Harald Bölstler at a recent supplier congress, attended by the managing directors of system suppliers.
The same is true of supplier workshops in which suppliers must go through their quality assurance processes with a fine tooth comb.
Mercedes Car Group boss Eckhard Cordes is particularly targeting large suppliers of electronic components, said the paper. He has required them to increase module and integrated component testing and to bear the cost of additional testing themselves.
