India’s largest car maker has served a legal notice on Hyundai Motors India which states that, “the brochure makes inaccurate, incomplete and distorted statements in three clear categories…with the intention to deliberately mislead customers.”
The three categories relate to drawings using different dimensional scales, dimensions of the Swift and the description of the Swift engine. Specifics include, according to the brochure, incorrect minimum rear legroom of 115mm, which Maruti claims is in fact 150mm, and a mention of ‘the dated Versa engine.’
Maruti has requested Hyundai to withdraw the brochure, make a public clarification and undertake not to criticise Maruti’s products in future.
Hyundai said its legal division will respond to the notice in a few days.
