Tesla has launched two cheaper versions of its Model S and X SUV in the US, Reuters reports.

According to the automaker’s website, the S and X “standard range” models are priced around 10% lower than the previous lowest-priced models.

They will be available for delivery in September and October this year.

The new Model S – priced at $78,490 – has a range of up to 320 miles. In contrast, the basic, performance and plaid versions offer up to 405 miles and 396 miles respectively. 

The new Model X SUV – which costs $88,490 – has a range of up to 269 miles. For comparison, the basic, performance and plaid versions offer up to 348 and 33 miles, respectively.

The move comes after the automaker announced it would be slashing the price of some of its Model Y vehicles in China, as well as offer insurance subsidies for Model 3 buyers.

Tesla is focusing on pushing costs down to prioritise sales growth.
