Honda expects sales in Spain to rise 12% to 17,000 units this year, helped by the introduction of several diesel models and boosted marketing efforts, a company spokeswoman told just-auto.

The recent launch of the diesel Accord, FR-V SUV and CR-SUV pushed sales to a claimed record 12,000 units in the January-September period, she said.


“We have not sold so well since 1998,” she added.


The UK-built Civic hatchback continues to lead Honda sales in the country, the spokeswoman said, while the Japan-sourced Jazz is experiencing strong demand fuelled by Spain’s fast-growing mini segment.


Added the spokeswoman: “We have achieved the objectives we set ourselves for 2005 and we hope to continue growing” from a 1% market share in Spain, Europe’s fifth-biggest car market.


Honda has stepped up marketing spending for 2005 and modernised its dealerships, according to the spokeswoman.
