VDA said in a statement cited by the news agency that a number of new models and buying incentives had contributed to the performance, which was achieved despite rising fuel prices.

VDA reportedly said registrations in France rose 7% in September, followed by 5% in Spain, and 4% in both Germany and Italy, while Britain’s fell 3%.

Citing preliminary figures, the VDA said registrations were up 0.4% in the first three quarters of 2005 to 11.25 million units, Reuters added, noting that Denmark recorded the biggest growth with 25%.
