UzDaewooAvto, South Korean Daewoo Motor’s car manufacturing joint venture in Uzbekistan, produced 55,303 cars in January-October, up 68.3% on the year, according to data released by Uzbekistan’s Statistics and Analysis Ministry on Friday, the Prime-Tass news agency said.
In January-October the company produced 30,980 Nexia cars, up 57.4% on the year and 15,534 Matiz cars, up from about 2,600 cars in the same period of 2003.
Output of the Damas model was at 7,165 cars, 22.5 % up on the year, while 1,133 Tico cars were produced, down from about 4,400 in January-October 2003.
In March, the company stopped production of the Tico as it switched to production of the Matiz model, for which there is more demand.
In January-September, the company exported 26,689 cars, up from about 14,800 cars in the same period of 2003.

In 2004, UzDaewooAvto plans to increase its car output 55.5% on the year to 63,000 cars.
The company plans to produce 35,925 Nexia cars, up 49.7% on the year, 16,325 Matiz cars, up from 3,265, and 9,650 Damas cars, up 38.6% on the year.
Exports are expected to more than double on the year to 35,000 cars in 2004 and domestic sales are seen at 35,000 cars, 31.5% up on the year. Earlier the company expected to export 27,000 cars in 2004.
In 2003, UzDaewooAvto produced a total of 40,505 cars, up 16.7% on the year, Prime-Tass said.
