The Mexican unit of DaimlerChrysler reportedly said on Thursday it would invest $US210 million to upgrade production lines at its plant in the northern state of Coahuila.

The unit, which exports about 80% of its cars to markets in 60 countries, said it would sink the funds into updating the chassis line at its plant in Saltillo, which makes Dodge Ram pickups, according to Reuters.
“The investment plan will (improve) manufacturing flexibility at the plant, thanks to the state-of-the-art technology of its new robot (production line) and a new worker-training program,” the company said.
DaimlerChrysler has five car plants in Mexico that produce Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Mercedes-Benz, Smart and Mitsubishi vehicles, Reuters noted.
